Effie Garcia

Moderator of Breakout Session 2 - Skilled Trades & Manufacturing

Effie N. Garcia is the Coordinator for one of MOSAIC’s newest employment programs that help immigrant professionals find their first local work experience through the WorkXP Internship Program.

Effie has worked in the settlement and employment services industry for over 14 years and is a Career Development Practitioner (CDP) graduate from Simon Fraser University (SFU). She highly values continuing education so she is also currently taking Human Resources Management (HRM) courses at the same university and hopes to complete by next year.

Having managed several multi-million-dollar government-funded projects, including project-based labour market training programs, Effie has overseen the creation and development of initiatives that bridged the gaps in employment among immigrant professionals. Prior to landing in Canada, Effie worked for the country’s largest Public Relations department of a food and beverage company in the Philippines and eventually ran an event staging company with her colleagues after leaving the corporate life where her hosting / emceeing skills were honed during company events.

Effie believes in second chances and is very grateful that she has had the opportunity to offer this chance to immigrants through the programs she has overseen since arriving in Canada about 15 years ago.
